A €20 million fund raising campaign by 14 start-ups offering innovative solutions across different industries with technology in Africa kicked off on August 14, 2017 in London.
The Pitch Drive team began their tour of five European cities in London.
While at the Google’s Campus in London, they had the opportunity to learn and pitch their ideas and innovative solutions to tech entrepreneurs like Tom Ilube, Venture capitalists and institutions.
Nigeria’s premier tech accelerator and incubator, The Co-Creation Hub (CCHub) is behind the initiative in collaboration with Google for Entrepreneurship and Omidyar Network. The fourteen start-ups from different countries in Africa made the list from 118 submissions. They include Kudobuzz (Ghana); Ongair (Kenya); Gebeya (Kenya/Ethiopia); Piggybank (Nigeria); Gloo (Nigeria); Prepclass (Nigeria); Tradedepot (Nigeria); Flashpa (Nigeria); Lifebank (Nigeria); Firefly media (Senegal); GoMetro (South Africa); ClinicMaster (Uganda); BitFinance (Zimbabwe); and Real Food (Zimbabwe).
Tom Ilube shared insights on how to manage the different dimensions of time. According to him, start-up founders should be urgent but patient enough to build world class products. This could require an in-depth knowledge in a specific area of expertise.
“The idea of a Pitch Drive is a phenomenal and an incredible opportunity for not only the selected 14 startups, but also the investors,” said Tijani Bosun, founder and CEO of CCHub, “The turnout applications for Pitch Drive lean to the ‘start small dream big’ saying and through this platform, we hope to help secure a number of breakthrough capital deals for the selected 14 startups. And like the Garage story of Google, we hope that one or two or possibly all of these start-ups will have a similar story. I can say that they are in for a tough but rewarding journey with us.”
The Pitch Drive team were also welcomed at Facebook headquarters in London.
