Lagos accuses PHCN of vandalising property
Lagos State Government has warned the management of Power Holdings Company of Nigeria (PHCN) against further vandalisation of infrastructure especially on the recently upgraded Lagos Central Business District (CBD) on Lagos Island.
Special adviser to the state governor on CBD project, Oyinlomo Danmole said "the warning became necessary to stem the wave of indiscriminate vandalisation of roads and walkways in the name of carrying out repairs".
According to Danmole "the PHCN officials are now in the habit of digging walk-ways to carry out repairs or lay underground cables without putting the damaged concrete walk-ways back in shape months after the so called repairs. Examples of these digging are noticeable on Broad Street (behind UBA headquarters), 45 Marina and other major streets within the CBD," he said.
He also announced that the government will soon embark on a major clamp down on traffic and sanitation offenders within the area.
"Major organisations like banks and other businesses operating within the Lagos CBD precinct that flagrantly disregard pedestrian's right and the rule on indiscriminate parking on the walk-ways will henceforth be heavily sanctioned," he warned.
The CBD is the major hub of commercial activities in Lagos State. It extends from the foot of Carter bridge, westwards, through Adeniji Adele road to Marina (inner and outer) up to Tafawa Balewa Square, Broad Street, Odunlami Street, Tinubu Square, Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Idumagbo Avenue, Ereko Street, Martins Street, Balogun Street to Idumota on Lagos Island.
