NAFDAC shuts 6 water factories, 3 pharmaceutical companies
National Agency onFood, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Monday in Port Harcourt closed six illegal table water factories and three pharmaceutical companies.
Oluremi Olanrewaju, NAFDAC chief regulatory officer in Rivers, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the agency would continue to fight illegal table water producers and drug dealers in the state.
Olanrewaju said there was hardly any drug free society, but that NAFDAC would do all in its powers to reduce the sale of fake and adulterated drugs to the barest minimum in Rivers.
She noted that those that deal on fake drugs were people without conscience who want to make quick money.
Olanrewaju said that NAFDAC had done a lot in sensitizing consumers about the dangers of buying drugs from unregistered pharmaceutical shops and companies.
“We have been educating consumers not to buy drugs from unregistered pharmaceutical shops and unlicensed patent medicine shops,” she said. She advised illegal drug dealers to stop endangering the lives of people, saying it was criminal and dangerous to the society.
Olanrewaju advised consumers not to buy any table water without NAFDAC numbers.
On the disposal of empty sachets and bottles, she said NAFDAC had instructed producers to attach disposal notice on them to direct consumers on proper disposal of empty bottles and sachets.
Despite the disposal notice, Olanrewaju said consumers still littered streets, drains and roads with used sachets and bottles. She advised consumers to handle the disposal of used sachets and bottles properly to avoid messing up the environmental.
