Coca Cola plans $100m investment to expand production capacity

The investment is to help improve the company’s production capacity to meet increasing demand of its products, and improve standards of its operations.
This was made known to BusinessDay by its President of Nigerian operations, Cem Kumral, at the recently concluded fourth Economist roundtable in Abuja.
Specifically, he mentioned that the investment will be used for the expansion of the company’s capacity in Nigeria, including transport vehicles, packaging, and distribution.
The president said the company is very optimistic about investment perspectives in the country as it has a huge market and the company is improving daily to position itself for medium and long term economic outlook of the country.
Although he admits that infrastructure is a major obstacle, as it impacts on operating costs, and the need to improve the company’s productivity. The company also expects to use advancement in technology to drive down the cost of production with the aim of getting value for planned investments.
Speaking further on the planned investment, the director of public affairs and communications, Irene Ubah, said “CocaCola is committed to the operations of the bottling company in Nigeria, and therefore prepared to help ensure that every plant in Nigeria has excellent treatment facilities, is environmentally friendly, and efficient, such that the plants operate at very excellent standard level”.
In addition to improving standards in its bottling plants across the country, the investment will be geared towards improving distribution channels across the country. The company will do this through investment in local entrepreneurs and distributors. Through this empowerment initiative, Coca – Cola expects improvement in businesses in its distribution chains.
Another area the investment expenditure will focus in the next three years is the area of staff training.
This will ensure that people who work in its plant have excellent prerequisite for carrying out their duties, and in the process, ensure only qualitative products are made from its bottling operations.
Asked how Coca-Cola will benefit from this investment, Irene Ubah says that “Coca-Cola interest is the state of the art production capacity characterised by high level environmental friendly facilities, qualitative products, and of course, the expectation that it will lead to the improvement in sales of its products”.
