The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is working tirelessly to sustain Nigeria’s movement from cash to electronic-based transaction. Moreover, Business Day gathered that the Ministry of Communication Technology in the past few weeks has stepped up discussions with CBN on how to spread mobile banking and payment services via post.
It was also learnt that the two entities are negotiating fervently and looking to develop feasible strategies on how to share facilities at the postal service’s branches nationwide, including those that may have been abandoned for lack of use or maintenance.
Besides, NIPOST has signed agreement with nine of the license mobile money operators to provide it’s over 4, 000 post offices and postal agencies platforms for mobile money services. NIPOST, according to industry watchers, appears to be paramount in the Ministry of Communications Technology’s areas of priority spending.
