The Super Eagles’ camp on Monday came alive in Abuja as the team began preparation for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by South Africa.
Ben Alaiya, the Super Eagles Media Officer, said that 22 players took part in the early morning training session at the Abuja National Stadium.
He said that Akwa United FC player Bassey E and Velaranga of Norway's Fengor Ogude, whose wife was delivered of a baby girl recently, were the only players yet to report.
Alaiya, however, expressed optimism that they would arrive before midnight.
He added that the team would make limit itself to only the morning training sessions for now until the team handler, Stephen Keshi, decided otherwise.
Kano Pillars duo of Gabriel Reuben and Papa Idris were the centre of attraction during the training as they performed brilliantly.
Both players came out sparkling in Monday’s training, after being laid low by injuries for over three months.
There had been fears that the two players who had been part of the national team setup from the home front since Keshi took over a year ago; may not be fit on time for the AFCON 2013 tournament.
The list of foreign based players would likely be released on Friday.
The team will jet out to Faro, Portugal for the final phase of their preparation on December 27.
