A renowned Islamic cleric, Muyideen Bello, has advocated adequate fund allocation for youth development by all tiers of government in the 2017 budget proposals.
Bello made the call in a lecture he delivered at the annual conference of Ansar-ud-deen Youth Association of Nigeria, Northern States Council.
He spoke on the topic: “Indiscipline and Corruption in Nigeria: The Role of Muslim Youth’’.
The event held at the Omu-Aran High School Hall in Omu-Aran, attracted delegates across the 36 state.
Bello explained that such intervention would assist immensely in engaging the youth productively and curb the menace of youth restiveness and unemployment.
He noted that current development in the country had posed a lot of expectations on youth involvement in tackling the nation’s numerous challenges.
The cleric also called on youths to remain focused and always imbibe the act of honesty, integrity and transparency.
Bello expressed the need for Nigerian youths to learn from the mistakes and misdeeds of past leaders in contributing their quota to the nation’s development.
Besides, the cleric advised youths to maintain a high level of academic background for them to be relevant in the scheme of things.
“A lot of hope and expectation are already placed on our youth in contributing their quota to national development.
“It is therefore pertinent for government to make more funds available for youth entrepreneurship, promotion and training in their budget proposals,” he said.
Alhaji Nojimudeen Yasin, the Chairman of Ansar-ud-deen Northern States Council, expressed delight at the large turn-out of the Muslim youths.
He urged the youths to imbibe the exemplary leadership style of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in their various dealings.
Alhaji Kazeem Adekanye, the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman for Irepodun Local Government Council, said the youth have formidable roles in promoting the desired developed nationhood.
Adekanye, who doubled as the President of the National Youth Council, Kwara chapter, said youths remain the engine room of the nation’s growth, progress and development.
The chairman commended the organisers for their foresight and urged them to maintain the tempo.
Alhaji Adeniyi Abdulganiyu, Chairman, Ansar-ud-deen Omu-Aran branch, praised Almighty Allah for making the conference a reality.
He enjoined the participants to take advantage of the conference initiative and ideas for them to become righteous and reformed.
No fewer than 14 distinguished Muslims received the organisation’s meritorious awards at the occasion.
