Lagos State government, on Tuesday, directed those currently occupying buildings within the Elegushi Estate in Ikate area of Lekki, to vacate the buildings in their own interest.
Wasiu Anifowoshe, the Lagos State commissioner for physical planning and urban development, who was at the site in the company of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, said the government will carry out integrity test on all the buildings standing within the state.
The result of this test, he added, will determine whether the occupants return to the buildings or not.
It would be recalled that a five-storey building under construction in the estate being developed by Lekki Gardens, a popular real estate developers, collapsed last week Tuesday, killing 35 persons and injuring several others. Most of the victims were said to be site workers.
The commissioner attributes the the collapse of the building to negligence and non adherence to approved standards. According to him, the developers compromised standards by adding extra two floors to what was originally designed as a three-floor structure.
The police and other relevant agencies of the government are still investigation the incident which is already a subject of litigation in the court.
