As the Annual General Conference (AGC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) kicks off next week in Cross Rivers State, the Section on Business Law (SBL) is facilitating a meeting of policy makers, industry players, regulators and advocates, at its breakout sessions during the AGC in Calabar.
In two separate sessions, tagged, “Assessing The Presidential Amnesty Programme And The Challenges Of Consolidating Safety And Security In The Niger Delta And The Gulf Of Guinea,” and “Consumer Protection and Compliance As A Mechanism For Nation Building In The 21st Century,” selected speakers and discussants made up of policy makers, regulators, and industry experts, will address the challenges of nation building, with an outlook on the chosen topics.
Participants who were at the 7th Annual Business Law Conference in Lagos recently, are indeed looking forward to the Amnesty session in Calabar, with the hope of getting a better understanding of the salient issues raised at the last outing in Lagos.
If the thought-provoking session witnessed at the SBL Conference is anything to go by, then participants would be in for quite an engaging discourse at the AGC, with the line-up of Kingsley Kuku, Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, Executive Director, African Centre for Leadership Strategy & Development, and Aelex Partner, Fubara Lawrence Anga, speaking at this gathering.
The Amnesty session, which would be preceded by the session on ‘Consumer Protection And Compliance’ is to be chaired by the Pioneer chair of the SBL and Principal Partner, George Etomi & Partners, Mr. George Etomi, whose contribution to the development of business law in Nigeria has been recognized both locally and internationally.
The Annual General Conference of the NBA is a gathering of Nigerian lawyers from various disciplines, jurisdictions and spheres of practice; who converge once a year in Nigeria, to tackle burning issues that are critical to the Nigerian legal profession.
This year’s event, scheduled to take place at the Tinapa Business Resort in Cross River State, will see a convergence of well over 10,000 lawyers in the Niger Delta city of Calabar; where hot topics such as the “The Presidential Amnesty Programme And The Challenges Of Consolidating Safety And Security In The Niger Delta” would be put on the hot burner for intense discussions.
The 2013 conference, which opens on Sunday August 25th, will feature plenaries, breakout sessions, dinners, AGMs, and several other activities; all of which will run until Friday, the 30th of August 2013 when the conference comes to an end.
