As part of Chevron’s new community engagement model, the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), the Egbema Gbaramatu Central Development Committee (EGCDC) of Delta State has awarded contracts for the execution of 24 projects worth N560 million.
This is coming barely two weeks after the commissioning of seven projects valued at over N43 million by the Idama Community Development Council of Rivers State, again underscoring the positive impact of the GMoU on neighbouring communities to Chevron operations in the country.
Femi Odumabo, general manager, Policy, Government & Public Affairs of Chevron said in a statement weekend that the EGCDC contracts signing and awards to community contractors followed a successful bids opening ceremony held at the EGCDC Secretariat in Warri, Delta State.
Commenting on the contracts, Ikem C. Tolar, EGCDC chairman said the award of the projects was to promote sustainable development which is a core value of the GMOU.
He noted that the Council was determined to sustain the present peace in the area which, he said, would go a long way in attracting foreign investors to the Niger Delta.
As an incentive to indigenous contractors handling the project, Tolar said that the Council was ready to authorise payment of 50 percent mobilisation fee for major projects, while others would attract 30 percent payment. However, the contractors, he said, would have to present Advance Payment Guarantees from reputable banks before the monies would be released to them, he added.
