Chairman, Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), Lawrence Ogieva has presented the commission’s report of activities for the first quarter of this year to Governor Oserheimen Osunbor.
Ogieva, who disclosed that the people of oil producing areas of the state were cooperating with the commission, however said the tasked of impacting on the lives of the people so as to reduce their level of agitations was as a result of the advice the governor gave the commission during inauguration.
For now the commission has a lot to do in order to ensure that wealth from oil derivation is equitably distributed.
The chairman said the exercise was in line with Section 16(4) of the law establishing the commission, saying that the report had been improved upon with the inclusion of pictorial presentation of projects and activities of the commission for ease of reference and assessment.
He however appealed to the governor to help sustain the tempo of activities already started by stakeholders to ensure that oil wells ceded to other states were returned to Edo State. Such would help to boost revenue accruing to the commission for further developmental projects.
Governor Osunbor praised the commission for a job well done; saying that in less than one year they had established themselves in the oil producing areas of the state.
He enjoined them to intensify efforts in bringing the development to the people of oil producing areas.
He therefore called for constant publicity of their activities in order that the people would be informed of their programmes and activities.
