Banks and other businesses operating across the National Assembly complex shut down operations today, as President Muhammadu Buhari presents the 2018 budget estimates to a joint session of the National Assembly.

There is unusual security at the National Assembly complex ahead of the scheduled presentation.

The budget presentation will take place at the House of Representatives’ chamber by 2pm.

Security operatives deployed from Department of State Sercives (DSS), Guards Brugade, Police and Sergeant-at-arms were positioned at strategic locations across the complex.

Lists of Legislative Correspondents covering both chambers of the National Assembly, which was submitted on Monday, were used to clear  the accredited journalists into the complex.

Following the tight security checks at the main entrance of National Assembly, staff of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) resolved to use the main SGF gate along Aso Drive.

Meanwhile, most of the National Assembly staff and legislative aides were asked to stay away from work today, according to a circular issued by the management.
