Homes are built and meant to be functional in which case, they provide normal shelter over human head and give comfort to their occupants.

Homes, whether owned or rented, give the human person a measure of respectability, prestige and value, thus making a difference in the life of man.
Real estate developers put in so much into the structures they erect, especially in residential houses, but what give ownership of these structures added value are the aesthetics and the finishing which further enhance their functionality and beauty.
Ist Eco Industries (WA) Limited is a paint manufacturing firm based in Lagos which has, in well over 10 years of opening for business, made tremendous impact in the property industry by providing this added value with its Mabbs Paints brand.
Mokelu Odoh, executive vice chairman and chief executive officer of the company told Business Day in Lagos that the desire to be part of Nigeria’s fast growing property industry and to contribute to its development gave rise to what has today become an enviable brand in the country’s paint industry.
“Abinitio, we were driven by the desire not only to be part of the nation’s robust property industry by giving value to homes, but also to prove to property developers that there could be better alternatives which is what Mabbs Paints represents”, he said.
As a finishing component in housing development, paints give homes beauty and value and this explains why quality should not be compromised. It is common knowledge that for sometime now, the paint industry has been characterised by supply of either very low quality paint at very cheap prices or very high quality at cut-throat prices.
Also, many paint manufacturers lack focus in terms of market drive and this is, in most cases, due to economic or social factors. Odoh says his company, after considering these shortcomings, came up with Mabbs Paints to bridge the yawning gap and to take the industry to a level hitherto considered unassailable.
With Mabbs Ecotex and Ecoauto, Odoh disclosed, his company started out with a focus to develop an export business from Cotonou-Lagos for its decorative and automobile refinishing paints, adding that “because of our aggressive market drive, in 1999, just three years into business, Mabbs became the 4th paint industry to be awarded the ETLS license and the first to really export paints outside the country to the west African sub-regional market”.
According to him, many residential houses and commercial properties, particularly in Lagos and Abuja, have enjoyed the high quality paints from 1st Eco Industries stable.
“To us, a house is just like a woman. No matter how beautiful a woman is, if she dresses in rags or does not wear clothes at all, the beauty will be lost on the beholder. But if a woman is well dressed, no matter how ugly she is, she will be a beauty to behold”, Odoh enthused, explaining that the beauty of any building is the painting which brings out the architectural designs “and this is what we do with our wide range of colours existing in emulsion and text-coats”.
He mentioned Mabbs Register, a text-coat, as one of the two products his company has used for the external decorations of the 24 luxury 3-bedroom bungalows at Taproot Estate next to Aso Estate, Sabo Lugbe along Airport Road, Abuja.
The highpoint of this product, he said, is the inviting textured finishing which it gives to buildings and other surfaces where it is applied.
Maximum Emulsion is Mabbs’ highest quality emulsion whose formulation, Odoh said, is top class with both interior and exterior coating that compares with its types even in advanced economies of the world.
Other paints variants from the Mabbs stable are Emulsion Precieuse and Makere NG’99 Emulsion. Whereas the former is supplied mainly to construction sites with 360 warranty, the later is applied mainly for interior decorations.
“With this, we have made and will continue to make invaluable contributions to housing development and more importantly, added value to many homes in Nigeria”, he said.
