Firm partners Bauchi on housing delivery
FirstCall Estates Limited, a subsidiary of Firstcall Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bauchi State government to deliver 500 units of 2 and 3-bedroom bungalows to its citizens.
This is in consonance with modern trend among most state governments of the federation who no longer want to be involved in direct provision of housing for its citizens, but rather choose to facilitate private sector participation in that regard.
The partnership which was signed on April 14 is based on the desire of the state government to provide over 2,000 housing units within Bauchi State, to be purchased by its civil servants of various levels and categories.
The housing delivery is the consummation of FirstCall Estates’ earlier proposal to provide affordable houses for Bauchi State citizens early this year.
According to the company’s group president, Ochuko Akposibruke, the company would bring to the partnership a mortgage package that would ensure that all allottees of the houses enjoyed convenience of repayment.
Asked why FirstCall has chosen to build for civil servants instead of the more profitable commercial market, Akposibruke told Business Day that “we are interested in helping governments deliver on their promises to their citizens of providing affordable and world class housing”.
He added that this was FirstCall’s way of recognising the worker who has constantly supported the Nigerian economy over the years.
The signing ceremony had Bauchi State’s Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Mohammad Gidado Muazu who represented and signed on behalf of the state government while Akposibruke signed for his company, Firstcall Estates Limited.
Also present at the signing ceremony were Mohammad A. Abdulahi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Environment, Bauchi State, Bashir Ayinde and Thomas Asaije also of FirstCall Group.
