A flurry of company results at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) last week has shown that the fundamentals of Nigerian companies remained strong despite the global crisis.  One of the results which came from Skye Shelter Fund plc for the year ended December 31, 2008 showed a fixed interest income of N236.1 million while profit after tax (PAT) stood at N114.6 million. Consequently, the fund managers recommended a dividend of N4.65 per share. The company, listed under the real estate investment trust sub-sector was admitted into the official list of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on February 26, 2008 would be having its first annual general meeting (AGM) this year. As a real estate investment trust scheme (REITS), distribution of up to 90 per cent of its profit to shareholders is encouraged. The register of members will be closing by July 23, 2009. 
Another company Avon Crowncaps and Containers plc also released its result for the year ended, March 31, 2008 to the public. Details made available to the NSE showed a turnover of N9.6 billion as against N6.9 billion in 2008; representing a growth by 39.1 percent. Meanwhile, PAT dropped by N5.8 percent from N251.1 made in 2008 to N236.5 million in the same period under review. 
The board of directors of the company has proposed a divided payment 12 Kobo subject to approval by the shareholders at the AGM to be held on September 24, 2009. The company is listed in the packaging sub-sector. 
Capital Hotels plc annual report for the financial year ended, December 31, 2008 shows a turnover of N3.9 billion compared with N2.8 billion in 2007; indicating a growth of 39.3 percent. Meanwhile, PAT was up by 18.1 percent to hit N209.1 million as against N177 million recorded in the same review period. 
A dividend of N0.05 has been declared while register of members will be closing on August 3, 2009. Payment date has been fixed for September 2, 2009 after the AGM which is held on August 19, 2009. 
Red Star Express plc listed in the commercial services sub-sector also submitted its result for the operational year ended, March 31, 2009. The only available detail was the proposed dividend payment of 30 Kobo per share to be approved at the next AGM holding August 20, 2009 while payment date will be August 27, 2009.
