Kayode Ajulo, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, said no other person has tried to stifle the constitutionality of Nigeria more than the attorney-general and minister of justice, Michael Aondoakaa. He said the attorney-general should resign because the position he has taken on the issue is contrary to his oath of office.
According to Ajulo, as the chief law officer of the federation, it is the duty of Aondoakaa to activate the constitutional provision that the Federal Executive Council should send a memorandum to National Assembly calling for a medical panel to inquire about the president’s health.
He said the president’s personal physician who is constitutionally supposed to be a member of the panel if set up, has come out publicly to state what is wrong with the president, the job of Aondoakaa has been made easy but that the justice minister has compromised his position.
Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), president of the NBA, in an interview with BusinessDay, said it is in the interest of Yar’Adua to have experts assess his health condition and determine if he is fit to continue or not. He advised him against relying on advice from Aondoakaa, whose only interest is his continued stay in office.
On his part, Dele Belgore (SAN) said that Umaru Yar ‘Adua’s health as an individual is not the business of Nigerians, but as the leader of the country, he owes it as a duty to inform Nigerians of his state of health.
