Dangote Cement gets chief executive

Richard Antony Hadley, a former executive vice president of the Africa region for the cement division of the Larfarge Group, has been appointed the chief executive officer of Dangote Group’s cement division.

His appointment took effect from January 1. Hardley, a Briton, studied mechanical engineering at Imperial College, London after which he began his career with the Schlumberger Group in 1980.

He held different operational and management responsibilities for the Schlumberger in Latin America, Africa and Europe.

In 1993, Hardley was appointed chief operating officer of Schlumberger’s Gas Services subsidiary in Manchester, the United Kingdom until 1998 when became senior vice president, quality control and environmental security for Schlumberger Oilfield Services Afica.

He later joined Blue Circle Industries and became its regional vice president, Africa/Indian Ocean. Following the acquisition of Blue Circle by the Larfarge Group, Hardley was appointed the executive vice president of the Africa region for the cement division.
