Oyo acquires N350m waste equipment
The equipment included 20 trucks fitted with necessary gadgets and 200 refuse bins.
Commissioner for environment and water resources, Muritala Aborode told journalists while taking delivery of the equipment that the bins would be mounted in strategic places across the metropolis to guide against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The equipment, Aborode noted, would be useful in the execution of the waste-to-wealth project being jointly sponsored by the federal government and the state.
The commissioner stated that the state’s environmental sanitation law was being reviewed to empower sanitary inspectors to carry out their functions effectively.
According to him,any resident who engage in indiscriminate disposal of domestic wastes either in the open spaces or inside the canal would dealt with according to the law.
Minister of Environment and Housing,Halima Alao,
who visited Ogunpa in Ibadan last week said Ibadan and Aba,was the dirtiest cities in Nigeria and expressed disgust over the heaps of refuse being deposited into the concrete canal.
Alao said that the federal government had so far committed about N5bn to the channelisation of Ogunpa.
