The managing director of the agency, Ado Sanusi who disclosed this in Lagos said the engineers that carried out the factory acceptance test at the manufacturers’ base in Paris, came back with a satisfactory report on the modern radar equipment.
Sanusi explained that with this endorsement, the equipment is expected to be shipped into the country any moment from now, just as he disclosed that the civil works at the radar site has gathered momentum to beat deadline.
Apparently giving an update on the TRACON project, the managing director announced that the Lagos sector would be fully in operation within the first quarter of the year following the arrival of the new primary radar and the electronic components into the country late last year.
While appreciating the efforts of the federal government in improving facilities at the nation’s airports, Sanusi remarked that the management would begin the process of accessing the 2008 budget to hasten the manufacture of radar equipment for Kano and Port Harcourt airports.
NAMA boss hinted that the process of installing new air traffic facilities at the Port Harcourt Airport control tower had begun ,adding that the contractors would be handing over the project by the end of next month.
“The refurbishment of towers at four airports is on track. Abuja and that of Lagos are fully operational now and working very well to the delight of the controllers. We are eager to have Port Harcourt and Kano onboard the new facility as the equipment are already in the country “, Sanusi said.
