The Kogi re-run governorship election will hold on Saturday. On INEC’s readiness for the election, Iwu said that ballot papers for the election had already been received and in the custody of the commission. On the security, the INEC boss said, “a team of security agents will be all over the state to nip any incidence of violence .’’ He also said that a senior police officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector-General would be deployed to supervise security matters. Iwu assured all stakeholders in the election that, “security would be beefed up such that members of the army would keep a calm presence at all flash-points.’’ Also assessing the level of the commission’s readiness, INEC Director of Public Affairs Segun Adeogun said the commission was “superbly ready’’ for the re-run election. He said INEC staff who had undergone training had been mobilised from the 12 neighbouring states to join other staff in Kogi for the conduct of the election. He said apart from the National Chairman, who heads the team, four National Commissioners, three Resident Electoral Commissioners, eight Directors and a police DIG would be playing supervisory roles. Adeogun added that an administrative office would be opened from Thursday, March 27, for the accreditation of observers and party agents. He said that each party was to submit names of 22 agents, one in each of the 22 local governments, who are to take part in the distribution of materials. Adeogun also said that all necessary logistics and the honorarium for the staff had been worked out to avoid any hitches. (NAN)
