The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Sokoto State says it has trained 400 women on small scale businesses to promote self-reliance .

The Programme Officer, Malam Sani Musa, said in Sokoto on Friday that NDE collaborated with both federal and state lawmakers in the capacity building.

Musa said that the beneficiaries were drawn from the three senatorial districts in the state.

He said the programme was part of NDE’s mandate to impact skills and business education in line with the Federal Government efforts on encouraging entrepreneurships among Nigerians.

He said the women were trained in tie and dye, shoe and bag making and production of air fresheners.

Other areas were soap and perfume making, beads, ear-rings and necklace production.

He said that because of the success of the programme, many groups and individuals had approached NDE for partnership to train more people in the state.

According to him, NDE will soon commence recruitment into skill empowerment training schools in Illela and Sokoto South Local Government areas.

He noted that the training school in Tambuwal Local Government, which had the capacity for 200 people was destroyed by rainstorm.
