As the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) agitation for a separate state of Biafra out of Nigeria intensifies, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), says cardinal factor behind the agitation is to provoke regime change in the country.
The Group which recently suspends the quit notice issued to the Biafra agitators to move out of the states in the northern parts of the country before the first of next month (October), hinted that it is documenting facts and evidence of incitement to violence carried out by IPOB for onward passage to International Criminal Court (ICC).
It also disclosed that the group has commenced engagement with local and international state and non-state actors to take note of the unfolding development in the country in event the situation at hand degenerated into full scale national crisis.
This submissions were contained in a text read to journalists by Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, spoke –person of CNG, during a news conference held at Nigerian Union Journalist (NUJ) Press center, in the commercial city of Kano, on Wednesday.
“We have flag off the rounds of effective advocacy and engagement on all matters affecting the region and reasoned presentation of the Northern viewpoints and positions on all issues related to the current situation.
“We have also set out on an immediate circuit to all the 19 Northern states to prepare and sensitize the Northern people to be less amenable to provocation by deliberate misinformation and incitement campaign being carry out by IPOB” Suleiman explained.
He added that his Group was aware of the intention of the IPOB agitators to render the country ungovernable, and to usher in a state of anarchy as well as instability which will occasioned a change of government by whatever means and tactics.
“Their plot was to target President Muhammed Buhari`s administration and single him for attacks and irreverent treatment geared at causing inter-regional crisis possibly leading to general national unrest.
“The current IPOB brand of agitation is a strategy being employed to achieve the results that the coupists of the First Republic failed to realise, namely to increase the weight and relevance of the region to the detriment and expense of the central government.
