Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Tuesday announced the reshuffling of some committees in the Senate.

Specifically, seven of the committees were reshuffled, while four lawmakers got opportunities to be vice chairmen of committees.

Making the announcement before the Senate adjourned for Tuesday plenary, Saraki disclosed that Andy Uba now chairs the Committee on Interior, having
relinquished the Committee on Public Accounts for Mathew Uroghide, who formerly chaired the Committee Chairman on Culture and Tourism.

The defection of Uba from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) had necessitated the need for him to move over to the Interior Committee, since the panel on Public Accounts is always reserved for the opposition.

In the new arrangement, Sabo Muhammed now heads the Committee on Trade and Investments, a position previously held by Raji Rasaki who now moves to Culture and Tourism Committee.

Also, the immediate past Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications Adeola Olamilekan now heads the Committee on Local Content.

In the same vein, Stella Oduah is now the substantive Chairman Committee on Cooperation and Intergration, even as Bukar Mustapha now chairs the Capital Market Committee.

Saraki also announced the name of Nurudeen Adeleke, brother to the late Isiaka Adeleke as the Vice Chairman Committee on Communications.

Other vice chairmen of committees include: Mohammed Sani Mustapha (Trade and Investment), Godswill Akpabio (Local Content) and Babajide Omoworare (Judiciary, Human rights and Legal Matters).

This is the third time the Senate President will be carrying out minor reshuffle of the committee leadership since he emerged as the nation’s Number Three citizen in June 2015.

This development brings to 69 the number of committees in the Senate.
