NigComSat plans to establish 370 community telecentres
The Managing Director of Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited, Ahmed Rufai has said that his organisation intends to establish 370 community telecentres to be equipped with 20 computers each in all the states of the federation.
He said this while receiving Minister of State for Information and Communication, Ibrahim Nakande, at the corporate head quarters of the organisation in Abuja who was on a courtesy visit.
According to him, community telecentres have the objective of making access to information and communication technology infrastructure to middle and low income earners at cheaper and affordable rates.
The NigComSat boss said with the availability of two-way broadband connectivity, alongside the operation of outsourcing services this would soon become a reality in the country.
He noted that the inauguration of the company’s multimedia network would also facilitate the emergence of small virtual networks operators.
Rufai assured that the entry of the company into the provision of services to end-users would lead to significant reduction in tariffs in the sector.
The minister of state applauded efforts of NigComSat in putting together the facilities, saying that he was confident of the ability of the management to carry out its obligation.
