Celtel plans to build 17 new switches across the country that can provide quality of service to about 20 million subscribers on its network. Already, the company has already commissioned two of its switches in Abuja and Kaduna respectively. In 2008, the company intends to lay a 4,000-kilometre fibre optic transmission backbone; additional 2,000-kilometre microwave transmission backbone (supplementary to the existing 3,000-kilometre); nationwide generator swap-out and dualisation and additional 1,000 base stations (to the existing 4,100).
