Google to keep Android and Chrome separate, says Schmidt
Google chairman Eric Schmidt said the Android and Chrome operating systems will remain separate products, despite speculation to the contrary.
However, Reuters reports Schmidt did say there would be more “commonality” between the two operating systems. He was speaking at Google’s Big Tent event in India. Speculation about the future of the two platforms surfaced following the announcement last week that Andy Rubin, the inspiration behind Android, is moving from his position as the company’s mobile head.
Responsibility for Android has been shifted to Sundar Pichai, Google’s head of Chrome. Schmidt also addressed his own future by countering talk he might be leaving the company. That speculation was “completely false”, he said.
