With 502 days to the 2019 general elections, Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has challenged Northern presidential aspirants to declare their ambition.

The governor who formally declared his presidential ambition on Thursday in Abuja, said his declaration against the zoning formula of his party was in line with the party’s democratic disposition by which it had allowed other members to do so in the past.

Counting on his experience as two-term governor, Fayose said that he is presenting himself “as one with the required knowledge, understanding, competence and, above all, the political will to coordinate the human and material resources that we have in abundance to achieve national greatness”.

The Ekiti governor said zoning formula produces incompetence because through zoning, political parties throws out considerations for merit and performance.

He listed politicians who have gone against the wishes of the party to declare their intentions despite zoning formula to include: late Abubakar Rimi, Barnabas Gemade, Victor Attah, Peter Odili, Sam Egwu, Donald Duke, Chimaroke Nnamani, Rochas Okorocha among others.

Vowing to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari if he contests, Fayose said: “I will defeat this Goliath in the name of God. I am the Nigeria man to watch out for as we get closer to 2019”.

He challenged all those in the PDP National Caretaker Committee (NCC) wishing to contest to come out and say so just as he also challenged those in the North where the Presidency has been zoned to come out.

Northern politicians in the party said to be eyeing the nation’s number one seat include: Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo; former Senate President David Mark; former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido; Chairman PDP National Caretaker Committee Ahmed Makarfi among others.
