Abia to establish free trade zone to boost made-in Aba products

…Acquires 9000 hectre land in Ukwa for the project

Abia State Government has announced plans to establish a free trade zone in Ukwa, a boundary town with Rivers State.
Already the State has acquired 9000 hectres of land for the project, which is geared towards promoting Made-in-Aba and Nigeria goods.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who announced this in Aba, the Sate’s commercial hub, during a press conference, revealed that a delegation from the State were on their way to Singapore for the final design of the project.
According to Ikpeazu, a delegation from Abia State has left the shores of Nigeria on their way to Singapore to come back with a final design of our free trade zone, which is going to occupy a 9000 hectre, already acquired certificate of occupancy (C of O) delivered piece of land between Abia and PortHarcourt, Rivers State capital.
“The idea is to make sure that the economy of Port Harcourt and that of Abia in the next 10 years will become unity.
By the time they come back, we will be able to see the final plan and our people would by that time gone far in obtaining the necessary approval to create an industrial cluster at the zone.
To boost production, Ikpeazu revealed that Abia, especially the Aba environment would be the first city in Nigeria to enjoy uninterrupted power supply in the nearest future.
He said that the State Government recently visited the  AFRIEXIMBANK to support Geometric Power, which has already generated power, waiting for a few distribution  bottlenecks within the Aba ring fenced area, which is the bedrock and pillar of production activity in Abia State.
