Fresh indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress-led Ogun state government may have jettisoned political clamour for governorship zoning to Ogun West which consists people of Yewa-Awori extraction, as party bigwigs are now calling for competent candidate that continues good and developmental governance started by Ibikunle Amosun.

Although, the overall economic status of the country betrays reasonable growth and development, going by the realities and bitter-sweet experiences of average Nigerians, the APC in the State however commended Governor Ibikunle Amosun on investments in infrastructure and attraction of foreign direct investment.

It must be noted that Ibikunke Amosun-led government in the State was reputed for hugely increased internally generated revenue, from the paltry N750 million revenue size monthly left by the past administration to between N5 billion and N7 billion monthly which is mainly made from the plethora of manufacturing firms now domiciled in the State.

Speaking during the meeting with party members in the State at APC secretariat in Abeokuta, Governor Ibikunle Amosun declared that APC would not go so low and pick unqualified candidate as the governorship candidate in 2019, saying the Ogun West Senatorial district which positions itself for governorship must also work for it, right from polling units, wards and local government if they must lead the State.

He said that political experience in the State has shown that election is not won on platter of gold, but everybody must work for it, adding that it must be clear that APC as a party would never allow any candidate, but qualified candidate that would add value to governance and improve on all developmental projects currently undertaken by Amosun-led administration.

While pledging that APC would continue its developmental projects across all the State’s senatorial districts as the Federal Government had approved construction of Waterside road in the Ogun East senatorial district, the governor assured party members that all aspirants would swing towards one person once the candidate for governorship election is picked.

Also, Tajudeen Lemboye, APC Acting Chairman in Ogun state, noted during a consultation visit of Bimbo Ashiru, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry ahead of 2019 governorship poll that APC might not support incompetent and unqualified candidate wherever he might come from in the State since the party would not want anybody that will rubbish the good works of APC in the State come 2019.

Lemboye, who disclosed that the APC is working on zoning, but merit, said, “these laudable achievements are visible to the blind and audible to the deaf, and therefore, require the need to have a successor that is capable to continue what he (Governor Amosun) has started.”

But, Bisi Rodipe, investor and chairman of BISROD Furniture, as well as other multinational investors who do not want their names in print, has declared their support for Bimbo Ashiru ahead of APC primaries meant to be conducted in April 2018, saying: “It is much better to have somebody like Ashiru taking mantle of leadership from Governor Amosun because he knows our problems, our challenges and possibly, the solutions to them becausd he was part of brains behind this government.”
