Ex-Health Minister, Nwosu, chairs Anambra PDP caretaker committee
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated the caretaker committee for Anambra State PDP.
The 37-man committee which has a former Minister of Health, ABC Nwosu, a professor, as chairman, also has a former Minister of Women Affairs, Josephine Anenih, as Secretary.
Inaugurating the committee in Abuja on Tuesday, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, said the panel is expected to pilot the affairs of the party in the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state.
He pointed out that the inauguration was sequel to NCC’s dissolution of all three factional structures of the party in the state last month.
Terms of reference of the panel include: to inaugurate local government and ward caretaker executive committees throughout the state and mobilise them effectively to restore the popularity of the PDP in Anambra State, ensure discipline of members as required in accordance with the party’s constitution and deal with any anti-party activities that may hinder the successful prosecution of the Anambra State gubernatorial elections.
Others are: to liaise with the national organs of the party in raising necessary finance for the state gubernatorial election and undertake any other matter for which it shall seek permission from the National Caretaker Committee to facilitate the successful prosecution of the mandate given to it.
The Party in the state has been enmeshed in leadership crisis for the past 12 years.
In his acceptance speech, Nwosu, a founding member of PDP, urged members who have defected from the party in the state to return.
Former PDP members who have left the party to other political parties include: Andy Uba (now in All Progressives Congress), Osita Chidoka (gubernatorial aspirant for United Peoples Party) Uche Ekwenife (currently in APC) among others.
