The Federal Government has commenced the rehabilitation of Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi road, an official has disclosed.

Sani Mohammed, the FERMA North-West Coordinator, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday that work started on the road last week.
“We are happy the contractor had mobilised to site and work has commenced since last week,” he said .
He advised the contractor to apply for extension of time in view of the fact that work commenced late.
“The contract was awarded in November 201 6 but the contractor could not start the work in time. So we are advising him to apply for the extension of time”.
He also advised the contractor to execute the work in accordance with the specifications and contractual agreement, adding that FERMA would  supervise for the work.
The Federal in November 2016, awarded contracts worth over N1.3 billion for the rehabilitation of some roads in Kano and Katsina states with Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi road amounting to over N184 million.
Meanwhile, a cross section of motorists who spoke to NAN commended the Federal Government for awarding the contract.

“Besides the economic importance of the road, it links Kano state with Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States and even the neighbouring Niger Republic, one of the motorists said.
They, however, called on the contractor to execute a good job, adding that motorists plying the road had suffered hardship for long on the road.
The Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi road, constructed during the administration of retired Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, had never witnessed any major repairs before now
