Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has banned the operations of inter-state buses and vehicles on Ikorodu Road.
Ambode also issued an ultimatum to all the inter-state commercial buses having loading bays around Jibowu such as God Is Good, Ekenedili Chukwu, Young Shall Grow among others to relocate within seven days or face the wrath of the government. The buses are henceforth to restrict their operations to Ojota and Ojodu Berger.

Steve Ayorinde, the commissioner for information and strategy, who conveyed the governor’s decision, said it was borne out of the need to free Lagos of avoidable nuisances, restore sanity and civility in the environment.

Ayorinde who led other officials to the Jibowu and Yaba axis, said the visit was a follow-up to an earlier inspection by the Governor Ambode to the area, adding that a quit notice had been served on the affected operators.

“Henceforth, they will have to go to Ojota and Ojodu Berger which are the two designated inter-state motor parks. The ones that we have here in Jibowu will have to move and there is a 7-day ultimatum for every one of them beginning from the ones in this axis to move,” Ayorinde said.

Anofiu Elegushi, acting commissioner for transportation, said the ban was part of the plan of the government to properly utilise spaces under flyovers and bridges.

He said that enough spaces have been provided to accommodate the affected bus operators at Ojodu Berger and Ojota, adding that a stakeholders’ meeting would also be held on this week to discuss and allocate spaces to them.

Bilikisu Adebiyi-Abiola, the newly appointed general manager of Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), said government was already working on an intensive design for the beatification project within Jibowu and Yaba axis.
