The Rotary Club of Festac Town, Lagos has formally inaugurated Pantelion Ndubuisi Onuoha as its president for the 2017-2018 Rotary year.

At an investiture ceremony held at Golden Tulip Festac, the new president said his leadership would focus on the key areas of maternal and child health, education, prevention and treatment of diseases, empowerment of indigent women, and youth leadership training.

“Primarily, maternal and child health is a key area for the club. That is why we intend to do so many things to help children in the area of health. We have already set targets. We intend to go round general hospitals and see women whom we can pay their hospital bills. We also want to donate medical equipment to children’s hospitals because we want to do as much as we can to reduce maternal and child health-care issues,” Onuoha said.

“We have planned to do surgery for at least 10 indigent women who are suffering from fibroid but who cannot help themselves. We did about five last year, we intend to do at least 10 of such operations this year,” he added.

The president said his tenure would also focus on education, which he believes is key to economic empowerment, as well as youth leadership.

At the event, the president also inducted the club’s Board of Directors for the year. The Board members include Charles Mbama, immediate past president, Justin Ohakwe, president-elect, Onyinye Ogbonna, vice president, Collins Onyenze, public relations, Alex Geonlebedum, the Rotary Foundation, among others.

He also gave awards to deserving friends of the club, including Frank Nneji, MD/CEO, ABC Transport PLC, Stanley Amuchie, group chief financial officer, Zenith Bank, Peter Ashade, MD/CEO, Africa Prudential PLC, and so on.

Onuoha, a seasoned banker, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Chartered Institute of bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). He is also an alumnus of the prestigious Lagos Business School (LBS).

Prior to becoming the president, Onuoha had served the Festac club in various capacities, including as sergeant-at-arms, club treasurer, club secretary, among others. He is the 36th president of the club.
