That day, the hotel is taking hospitality outside its premises to the expansive ground of the premier golf course in Nigeria. There, the best of golfers around will vigorously compete for honours in the Southern Sun Golf Tournament 2014.
Now in its fourth edition, the tournament, set in the lush grounds and standard 18-hole golf course of the Ikoyi Club 1938, will offer true escape to both lovers of quality leisure and the golf game.
While expressing delight at the hotel’s continued commitment in organising yet another keenly anticipated golf tournament during a media chat at the hotel, Cliff Shiridzinody, deputy general manager, Southern Sun Ikoyi Hotel, said the growing level of interest in the tournament had witnessed a steady increase in the number of players participating over the years. “Earlier, we had 80 players. But about 180 are participating in this year’s tournament. The steady increase is as a result of Southern Sun’s positive relationship with corporate organisations, and also boosting the willingness to sponsor the annual tournament,” Shiridzinody noted.
In same vein, Ubong Nseobot, sales/PR manager of the hotel, stated that the continued commitment and contributions from the sponsors remain a key driving force to the success of the annual tournament.
Ted Iwere, Ball Captain of the Ikoyi Club 1938, commended the efforts of the hotel in partnering the Ikoyi Club 1938, in promoting golfing as a thrilling sport, which also aids the development of youth friendly activities within the community at large. Iwere reassured the hotel and its tournament sponsors that the “golfers for this year’s 2014 challenge are excited and raring to go.”
Speaking on the benefits of continued sponsorship of the tournament, Diran Oloyede, sales manager, Kenya Airways Nigeria, noted that the tournament represents an outstanding meeting and partnership among esteemed brands, providing an atmosphere for healthy competition, relaxation and a day of fun which allows organisations to successfully network with their valued clients. Oloyede said in making this year’s tournament an exciting challenge, Kenya Airways is offering the overall winner, a star prize of two business class air-travel tickets to Nairobi alongside an all expense paid trip to play on a larger golf course of international repute.
