Governor Theodore Orji of Abia has instituted a five-member judicial panel of enquiry to investigate the operations of the state-owned National Ambassador Newspaper Printing and Publishing Company from 1999 to date.

Orji, who inaugurated the panel in Umuahia on Monday, urged the panel to find out the immediate and remote causes of the crisis rocking the organisation.

He expressed concern that the state-owned newspaper was not regular on the newsstand “in spite of all the money pumped into the place”.

The governor charged the panel to identify the assets, including printing machines and vehicles acquired by the publishing company during the period.

Orji further charged the panel to investigate and determine whether the funds and assets appropriated to the organisation during the period “was properly managed”.

He said that panel should also identify those involved in the mismanagement of funds appropriated to the corporation, adding that such persons should be invited “for fair hearing”.
