Soroptimist International of Nigeria has said it would use today’s International Women’s Day celebration to raise its profile and its programmes.

Nneka Chris-Asoluka, programme action chairman of the association in Nigeria, said the programmes are embodied in its 3E projects.

According to her, Soroptimists “educate to lead for global impact. Soroptimists educate with skills and empower women and girls with confidence, giving them the ability to achieve their fullest potential. “Looking beyond the individual, Soroptimists work locally and globally to enable opportunities through advocacy and awareness raising so that women and girls can use their skills and confidence as leaders and role models in the wider community”.

She noted that discriminatory laws and violence against women and gender stereotypes have continued to hinder the opportunities opened to women and restricting them to traditional roles while the male is seen as the superior sex.
